With Microsoft once again attempting to purchase Yahoo (and the rest of the computer world!), I thought I would take a look at Yahoo's search engine. There was a time long ago that I only used Yahoo. Then Google came onto the scene and that was the end of Yahoo for me. And, apparently, for a whole bunch of other people.
I thought it would be interesting to run some of my keywords through both to see who loves me more. While I actively try to work with Google rankings, I've done nothing with Yahoo. The numbers are the amount of hits out of 10 that I got on the first page of the search results. The last two are throw-aways. I really should get 10 out of 10. Take a look:
Keywords Google Yahoo
"online high schools" 4/10 6/10
"high school diploma online" 2/10 0/10
"thomas nixon" 7/10 6/10
"complete guide to online
high schools" 10/10 10/10
"best online high schools" 10/10 10/10
"bestonlinehighschools.com" 10/10 10/10
Analysis: I do better with Yahoo for "online high schools," but here is the problem. The entire point of doing better is to get it to hit on my website. However, while I get more hits with Yahoo, that website comes in at #9, while it is #4 on Google. More doesn't always equal better. Some of Yahoo's higher hits, while nice, were for smaller mentions.
I'll stick with Google.
